Professional Energy Purchasing Launches New Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Assessments

The new Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme (ESOS) assessments will help eligible businesses complete and submit their energy assessments by the looming 5th of December 2023 deadline.

This new service complements the current portfolio of energy services Professional Energy Purchasing (PEP) offers to clients which include energy efficiency audits to find long-term energy and carbon savings, energy procurement, and Net Zero planning.

Who needs to comply with ESOS?

A business qualifies for ESOS if it has met one or both of the following criteria for two consecutive years on or before 31st December 2022:

  • More than 250 employees in the UK

  • A turnover exceeding £44.1m and a balance sheet exceeding £37.9m

Businesses that meet these criteria have until the 5th of December 2023 to submit their energy assessments to the Environment Agency or can face serious fines.

ESOS energy assessments must be overseen and verified by a registered ESOS Lead Assessor who has been approved by a professional body before they can be submitted.

PEP Energy Manager Jason Martin has successfully achieved ESOS Lead Assessor status by completing a rigorous assessment process with the approved professional body ‘Energy Managers Association (EMA)’. This adds to his extensive energy management and engineering experience which has helped companies optimise their buildings and become energy efficient.

Linda Spencer, PEP managing director comments “I’m thrilled to be able to offer this new service to our clients which will help them successfully navigate ESOS legislation and compliance requirements. This bolsters our in-house energy management services, giving our larger customers a cradle-to-grave service that will make the process easier and seamless for them.

Jason has already delivered energy and carbon savings across the region, so this is a perfect addition to his role. The important thing now is to make sure companies are aware of the impending ESOS Phase 3 deadline and don’t get caught out by leaving it too late.”
