Occasionally companies are contacted by individuals or organisations imitating our business and members of our team.

Scam calls will often try to pressure you into quickly switching suppliers or revealing financial information by using tactics like claiming there's an issue with your account, requesting meter information, or offering "too good to be true" deals.

To protect your business, hang up on suspicious calls, never give out personal details to unsolicited callers, and if you need to verify the call, contact us directly to confirm the request is legitimate.

How to Identify a Scam

  • Unsolicited contact:

Be suspicious of any unusual calls or emails claiming to be from Professional Energy People (PEP), even if they provide specific names.

  • Requests for meter information:

A scammer might ask for details like passwords or meter details such as MPAN/MPRN numbers.

  • Poorly written messages:

Be alert for emails or texts with spelling errors, bad grammar, or a general lack of professionalism.

  • Too-good-to-be-true offers:

If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

  • Suspicious phone numbers:

Scammers often use fake or spoofed numbers. Our team will only call from the main PEP office number 0114 327 2645.

What to Do if You Receive a Scam Call

  • Do not provide any information:

Do not give out any personal or financial details, including passwords, PINs, or account numbers.

  • Hang up: End the call immediately.

  • Do not use the contact information given

The contact details provided by the scammer are part of the scam. Do not use any phone numbers or links they provide.

  • Report the scam:

    • Contact your account manager or the general office directly at info@pepgb.com and we will investigate any enquiries you have had.

    • Report the scam to Action Fraud

    • If you think you have been a victim of fraud, you can also contact Action Fraud for advice.

    • You can also email suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk
