Icon Aerospace Technology is a globally recognised, technology-led company that pioneers high-performance polymer solutions. Their products are critical in sealing, containment, propulsion, and protection systems across industrial and aerospace sectors. With a focus on solving complex engineering challenges, Icon’s innovations help leading aerospace and defence clients reduce weight and enhance system efficiency, delivering both technical excellence and commercial value.

The Energy Challenge

As an energy-intensive manufacturer, Icon Aerospace Technology needed to manage their energy consumption strategically to stay competitive in a cost-sensitive industry. Rising utility prices and increasing regulatory pressures made it essential to maximise every opportunity for savings -particularly through the Climate Change Agreement (CCA) scheme, which rewards energy-intensive businesses that commit to improving energy efficiency.

What We Did

Our partnership with Icon spans several years and a broad spectrum of energy management services. From negotiating competitive rates for electricity, gas, and water to helping manage compliance schemes, we’ve become their trusted energy advisor.

Specifically, for the CCA scheme, we undertook a detailed operational energy audit to determine how much of Icon's energy use qualified under the CCA’s criteria. This involved:

  • Site-wide energy use analysis

  • Identification and calculation of eligible manufacturing processes

  • Comprehensive CCA application and administration support

We handled the full submission and compliance process, allowing Icon to focus on their core business while we managed the paperwork and technical requirements.

The Result

The energy audit revealed that over 70% of Icon’s energy consumption directly supported eligible manufacturing processes. Only a small percentage was attributed to non-qualifying uses such as office facilities. This high eligibility rate has resulted in automatic savings of nearly £50,000 annually on their energy bills through reduced Climate Change Levy (CCL) charges.

Terry Williams of Icon Aerospace Technology commented

“We’ve worked with PEP for several years, relying on them for all our energy-related needs - from procurement to compliance. Their support in navigating the CCA scheme has been no exception.
Their team handled everything with precision and professionalism, from the detailed audit to the full application process. Thanks to their support, we’re now saving nearly £50,000 a year on energy costs which has made a real difference to our bottom line."
